How to Write a Booking Inquiry That Actually Gets a Response

Sending booking emails into the void is one of the most frustrating parts of building a DJ career. The good news: most unanswered emails fail for fixable reasons.

Research Before You Write a Single Word

Talent buyers have seen it all and can pick out serious inquiries from generic ones. Before reaching out, research the venue's booking contact, capacity, and upcoming calendar, if you're clearly not a good fit, don't waste your shot.

Make the Subject Line Do the Work

Put as much detail as possible in the subject line itself, date, what you're asking for, and who's asking. Something like "May 21st – Opening Slot Inquiry – [Your Name]" tells the recipient everything they need before they even open the email.

Keep the Body Short

Talent buyers and promoters receive a huge number of inquiries every day, anything longer than one or two short paragraphs is too much.

A simple structure works best: greet them by name, explain why you're writing, introduce yourself, describe your style, and link directly to your music.

Make It Effortless to Listen

Provide easily accessible links to your music, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, or streaming platforms, and choose your best, most representative tracks rather than overwhelming them with options.

Be Honest About Where You're At

Promoters will often ask about your history in the market, where you've played before, what kind of crowd you've drawn. Being upfront here builds trust; being dishonest burns the relationship before it starts.

Don't Give Up After One Email

If you don't hear back, follow up, and follow up again. Every follow-up should add something new: a recent mix, a review, an update, never just repeat what you already said.

Following up once every ten days or so is a reasonable rhythm, and there's no reason to be shy about it if your original email was polite and professional.
